The New York Knicks opened their best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Miami Heat on Sunday at Madison Square Garden without forward Julius Randle, who last week aggravated the ankle sprain initially sustained in his team’s March 29 home victory over the Heat.Randle left the Knicks’ series-clinching Game 5 opening-round victory Wednesday night over the Cleveland Cavaliers and had been receiving treatment leading up to Sunday’s decision.Of the Knicks lacking Randle, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said pregame, “It’s still going to come down to competition, who’s going to get to whose game.”Obi Toppin replaced Randle in the Knicks’ starting lineup. The Heat remained shorthanded, with starting guard Tyler Herro breaking his right hand in the series opener against the Milwaukee Bucks that the Heat took in five games, and backup guard Victor Oladipo sidelined in Game 3 of that opening-round series with a torn patellar tend...Mets-Braves postponed for second straight game

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say DNA evidence has proven that a man who died in prison several years ago was responsible for the 1984 murder of a 19-year-old woman whose body wasn’t found for more than a decade after she disappeared from her family home in New Jersey. The state attorney general and the Mercer County prosecutor’s office last week announced what they called “the conclusive identification” of Nathaniel Harvey, formerly of East Windsor, as the person responsible for the sexual assault and murder of Donna Macho. Macho, 19, went missing from the East Windsor home where she resided with her parents and sisters on or about Feb. 26, 1984. A Boy Scout troop leader found her skeletal remains in a wooded area in Cranbury on April 2, 1995, and her identity was confirmed by dental records.Around the time she disappeared, Harvey was arrested in several sexual assaults as well as an unrelated murder. Quebec’s minimum wage will rise by one dollar to $15.25 as of Monday. The Quebec government says it is trying to improve the purchasing power of low-income earners and encourage participation in the labour market. The province’s labour department says nearly 299,000 workers will benefit from the increase, including more than 164,000 women. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business, which represents small and medium-sized businesses, says it worries about the effect the new wage will have on its members, noting it comes on top of rising costs for electricity, raw materials and other expenses.Meanwhile, a group dedicated to fighting poverty in the province says the increase isn’t sufficient given rampant inflation.Virginie Larivière says social and labour groups had been seeking $15 an hour as far back as 2016 and have been advocating for the minimum salary to be raised to $18 an hour over the past two years. The increase from the current $14.25 wage is the largest...Biden, Marcos set to meet as tensions grow with China

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is set to host President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Philippines for White House talks Monday as concerns grow about the Chinese navy’s harassment of Philippine vessels in the South China Sea. The Philippines this year agreed to give the U.S. access to four more bases on the islands as the U.S. looks to deter China’s increasingly aggressive actions toward Taiwan and in the disputed South China Sea.Meanwhile, China has angered the Philippines by repeatedly harassing its navy and coast guard patrols and chasing away fishermen in waters close to Philippine shores but which Beijing claims as its own.
