July home sales saw the largest year-over-year increase in more than two years, but were little changed from June, the Canadian Real Estate Association said Tuesday. On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, sales edged up 8.7 per cent from the prior July to 41,186.Seasonally-adjusted sales amounted to 40,028, a 0.7 per cent drop from June. Sales were up in July in more than half of all local markets, but a decline in the Greater Toronto Area, a typically hot housing market, tipped the national figure “slightly negative,” CREA said. The association has seen signs of stabilizing across the national housing market since May as prospective buyers acclimatize to a higher interest rate environment than many were anticipating.“July continued along the same trend we’ve seen emerge in recent months, with sales levelling off and new listings returning in more normal numbers,” Larry Cerqua, CREA’s chair, said in a press release.“This has been giving buyers more choice and balancing ...Here are a few facts about taking naps

(The Hill) -- Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) has surpassed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) in the critical early presidential primary state of New Hampshire, according to a new Emerson College survey released on Tuesday. Christie leapfrogged DeSantis's second place in the Granite State, garnering nine percent support. DeSantis's support, on the other hand fell to eight percent from 17 percent in March. Christie's one-point lead over DeSantis falls within the poll's plus or minus 3.4 percent margin of error. “DeSantis has been the alternative to Trump in Emerson polling this presidential cycle. This is the first time we have seen DeSantis drop out of second place in our polling, and fall back into the pack of candidates,” said Spencer Kimball, the executive director of Emerson College Polling. Christie's campaign has maintained an intense focus on New Hampshire, while DeSantis's team has prioritized Iowa. However, DeSantis has still made a number of trips to the Granite...What's on the line in Cubs-White Sox City Series No. 2 in 2023

Meanwhile, the struggling south siders are hoping to retain possession of the "Crosstown Cup" if they can pull off a sweep against their north side foes.(Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)Thanks to a pair of wins on July 25 & 26 over the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field, the Cubs have the opportunity to end a few streaks with a strong performance at Wrigley Field the next two days. With just a win, they'll capture their first overall City Series win over the south siders since 2018, when they took 4-of-6 games from the White Sox. If they manage to win both games, they'll complete just the third sweep in a match-up of Chicago's MLB teams since...Austin pizzeria raises money for Hawaii wildfire victims

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Tragic wildfires in Hawaii have inspired the help of people from all over, including right here in Central Texas. Roppolo's Pizzeria held a fundraiser, devoting 20% of Monday's sales to the relief funds for victims of the fires. The owner, Marc Roppolo, told KXAN he has friends living in Maui, and seeing the devastation firsthand inspired him to reach out. Roppolo also wants to inspire others to unify and give back as well. How — and when — is best to donate to those affected by the Maui wildfires? The fires that swept through Lahaina last week destroyed nearly every building in the town of 13,000, the Associated Press reported. According to AP, the Red Cross said 575 evacuees were spread across five shelters on Monday, including the War Memorial Gymnasium in Wailuku. More than 3,000 people have registered for federal assistance, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and that number was expected to grow, AP reported.
