Nestor Cortes barely had made it out of spring training when his monthslong tenure with the Orioles ended. Franchy Cordero didn’t even last that long. Both former members of the organization helped the New York Yankees take the first series of the season at Camden Yards with contributions in Sunday’s 5-3 rubber match, as Adley Rutschman’s four-hit day wasn’t enough to give Baltimore a series victory.Taken in the 2017 Rule 5 draft, Cortes made his first four major league appearances as an Oriole before being returned to New York. The left-hander has since dominated the Orioles, with his 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball Sunday leaving his ERA against them as 1.38 in eight outings, six of them starts.Half of his run support came from Cordero. Signed as a minor league free agent in December, Cordero was among the Orioles’ bevy of left-handed-hitting candidates this spring but opted out of his deal after hitting .413 with a 1.099 OPS in camp. Days later, the out...Aaron Judge, Franchy Cordero take O’s deep in Yanks’ rubber game win

BALTIMORE — With his first two-homer day of the season — and the 28th of his career — Aaron Judge now leads the Yankees with four home runs. The outfielder’s first longball of Sunday’s game, a 5-3 rubber game win for the Yankees, took right-hander Tyler Wells to straightaway center field in the third inning for a solo shot. Judge seems to enjoy at-bats against the Orioles starter, as two of his 62 home runs in 2022 came against Wells on July 22 last year. But it was Orioles reliever Logan Gillaspie who surrendered Judge’s second blast, a liner to left field in the eighth. In addition to pacing the Yankees in homers, Judge is now tied for the team lead in RBI with seven. He shares that space with Franchy Cordero, who showed the Orioles that he can hit the ball hard during spring training. He spent the weekend reminding them of his capabilities — while wearing the Yankees’ road grays.Cordero raked for Baltimore during exhibition play, slashi...Ticker: Tesla plans power storage factory; GM China auto sales down 25%

A great regular season finished with a dud.The Knicks fell Sunday to the tanking Pacers, losing 141-136 while their defense disappeared faster than the Easter Bunny.Still, the Knicks (47-35) secured the franchise’s second-best record in the last 22 years, and their most wins in a decade. The next stop is Cleveland for Game 1 over the weekend.“On behalf of my teammates and the organization we are really thankful for your support all year,” Jalen Brunson, who rested Sunday’s game, told the crowd before tipoff. “You guys make this the best place in the league, the best fanbase in the league. We really appreciate it. But we are not done yet. We’ll see you guys in the playoffs.”Obi Toppin was again a positive Sunday while scoring 34 points. The games were meaningless. LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska church has raised more than $520,000 to pay off the medical bills of residents in its neighborhood, ending the 14-month-campaign on Easter Sunday. An estimated 10,000 people contributed to the First-Plymouth Congregational Church effort, The Lincoln Journal Star reports. “In my mind, it was a straight-on spiritual thing, you know, Jesus says, ‘love your neighbor,’” the Rev. Jim Keck said. “What erupted was just generosity.”The effort came about after the Rev. Juan Carlos Huertas took on outreach efforts at the Lincoln church, starting something called justNeighbors. The ministry centered around community connection, helping neighbors with laundry, filling their gas tanks and providing health care to those without insurance. He and Keck then set their sights on medical bills. By acquiring debt profiles anonymously through collection agencies, Huertas had determined how to absolve Lincolnites’ medical debt without incurring a tax burden on those receivin...CPD: Group robbed Northwest Side businesses at gunpoint for cash and cigarettes

TWIN FALL, Hawaii (KHON) -- Twin Falls is one of the most popular stops along Maui's iconic Hana Highway. It's gotten so popular, the area became a safety concern as hundreds of cars park along the highway, and people often dodge across the road to visit the falls. However, many local residents avoid Twin Falls due to the overwhelming number of visitors."I can count on my two hands how many local cars I get a day here," said Aina Harold, who has worked at Twin Falls for 15 years. "There's a big gap between how many local people want to come here and how many visitors are coming here."In recent years, the privately-owned farm decided to cap the number of cars in its parking lot at any given time to 75, but keeps resident parking available all day. Tourists sometimes get angry if they can't get in at a certain time, Harold said. "I understand their frustration. They’ve spent thousands of dollars. It's their dream vacation. There’s those expectations to be able to access every place yo...Latest news
