Save A Lot opening in Englewood postponed after protests

CHICAGO — Plans to open a new Save A Lot where the old Whole Foods in Englewood was located are on hold after dozens of residents protested against the store's opening. The store off of 63rd Street was expected to open Thursday, but after residents came out Wednesday night expressing their opposition, the opening date has been pushed back. Whole Foods in Englewood to close in November Some local residents said they weren't invited to a soft opening scheduled for Wednesday night. Since Whole Foods closed in November, several residents have shared the type of grocery store they want to see in its place. They said Save A Lot is not it. "People have unequivocally said they are not impressed with the Save A Lot brand," Asiaha Butler with the Resident Association of Greater Englewood said.Brianna Hobbs said the number one thing people wanted was quality products. BOLLINGER COUNTY, Mo. - Missouri Governor Mike Parson got an aerial view of the damage left behind by an early Wednesday morning tornado in Bollinger County.“It’s a long journey ahead for the people that live here," Parson said.The tornado killed five people and injured five more. The driver of a crane vehicle was killed after crashing into a power pole in Malibu on Wednesday.Los Angeles County firefighters received reports of the incident around 5:20 p.m. near Las Flores Canyon and Gorge Roads.The crash happened as the truck was driving down Las Flores Canyon Road and somehow lost control.Sky5 images show the overturned vehicle tangled in power lines while lying on a brush area. (KRON) -- An Oakland man, Burte Gucci Rhodes, a.k.a. "Moeshawn," was sentenced to serve the rest of his life in prison for committing a murder-for-hire, conspiring before the murder, and dealing heroin. The sentence was handed down by the U.S. District Judge William Alsup on Wednesday.Prosecutors described 41-year-old Rhodes as an "assassin." He was convicted by a jury after a week-long trial last year.
