OAKLAND — The Ghost Ship is gone.What remained of the burned-out artist warehouse where 36 people died in California’s worst single structure fire — a tragedy that led to a criminal conviction, lawsuits, a landlord bankruptcy and fire inspection reforms — was quietly demolished this month.The property that includes the warehouse site was acquired earlier this month by The Unity Council, a nonprofit community development organization based in Oakland’s Fruitvale District. SAN JOSE – A woman has died of injuries she suffered in a five-vehicle collision earlier this week in San Jose, police said.The crash was reported around 6:15 p.m. Monday near Monterey Road and Live Oak Avenue, according to the San Jose Police Department.Police said a man was driving a Dodge Durango southbound on Monterey Road at a “high-rate of speed” when he sideswiped a Lexus sedan and then rear-ended a Hyundai sedan.The Hyundai was pushed forward into a Chevrolet pickup truck, which collided with a Toyota sedan, according to police.Police said the adult female driver of the Hyundai suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where she died Tuesday. No other injuries were reported.The death marked the 16th fatal collision and 17th traffic fatality of the year on city streets. (KRON) -- A colorful art installation just went up in Tiburon, right along the water at the South of Knoll Park. It’s called “Collaborative Nature.” Lightweight fabric is attached to fiberglass poles, catching both wind and light. That means the installation looks different depending on the time of day you visit. The project is part of Tiburon’s relatively new Public Art Program. Dozens of volunteers helped him set up the roughly 800 poles, over about a week. To see the work in person, head to the Southeast corner of the park, along the Old Rail Trail, near the playground. A manhole explosion sent smoke into the air and knocked out power in an area within the South End Wednesday, drawing an emergency response. The incident happened on Harrison Avenue. Eversource officials said customers started reporting their lights were dimming and flickering just before 5 p.m. The power was knocked out completely around 5:45 p.m. The owner of Convenience Plus, a store in the area, captured video with his cell phone of the scene that ultimately left his store and many others in the dark. “This place is always open,” said area resident Tom Downard near one local business. “It’s even open on Sunday, so I figured something was going on.”Crews raced to fix the problem, which Eversource identified as an underground cable failure. An alarming attack unfolded inside a Manchester, New Hampshire home earlier this week when police said a stranger lunged at a woman with a knife. The woman is okay. She recently described the frightening moments, though, where she said she came face to face with the unknown man. “When I was coming back in from checking the backyard, I heard a ruckus in the basement, so I opened the door and the first thing I see was a guy screaming, ‘I’m Josh, I live here!
