State regulators informed AdventHealth Porter on Oct. 12 that one of the Denver hospital’s two 50-year-old boilers was in such disrepair that it was no longer safe to operate and gave the health system 60 days to fix it or risk civil and criminal penalties. The hospital ordered a backup boiler from Texas and planned to run its heat and hot water systems off the second 50-year-old unit in the meantime. But 18 days later, on the morning of Oct. 30, that second boiler failed — and the backup was not yet in Denver. The broken boilers forced Porter officials to evacuate more than 100 patients and to close the entire hospital for 10 days, state officials said. But in their public communication about the hospital shutdown, AdventHealth Porter officials never disclosed that one of the facility’s boilers had been taken offline because it failed an inspection weeks before the second unit broke. The Denver Post discovered the report detailing the Porter boiler’s inspection...Broncos WR Courtland Sutton continues to be playmaker in red zone: “He’s that person that Russ needs.”

The Broncos were running out of time.Denver had failed to score a touchdown in four red zone trips against Minnesota on Sunday night, and trailing by five with 69 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the team needed to reach the end zone to keep its win streak alive. The Vikings defense brought the heat on first down, forcing quarterback Russell Wilson to step up in the pocket and launch the ball toward a streaking Courtland Sutton in the back corner of the end zoneUsing all of his 6-foot-4 frame, the veteran wide receiver leapt and snatched a 15-yard touchdown pass over cornerback Mekhi Blackmon to beat Minnesota 21-20 at Empower Field at Mile High.“Once I saw (the ball) coming to me, I couldn’t wait for it to come down,” Sutton said. “There were defenders around me so I had to go make a play.”While the Broncos continue to search for their sweet spot on offense, the one constant has been Wilson’s connection with Sutton in the red zone.A week earlier, the two hooked up for...Opinion: Now that voters have spoken, Republicans have no where to hide from their record on abortion bans

The results of the latest election since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade are in.Once again, abortion rights proved to be the most potent issue across the nation, in red states, blue states, and across all levels of government. Pundits proclaimed that the Republicans’ attempt to reboot their abortion messaging failed and announced that in the upcoming 2024 presidential election, the party would have to search for different ways to mask their long-held goal to ban abortion. But the problem is not their messaging. It’s their mission. In the five decades since Roe, Republicans have tried again and again to enact a nationwide abortion ban. When it became clear they wouldn’t be successful in getting legislation through Congress, they weaponized the courts by seating unelected judges who ruled in their favor. In recent years, Donald Trump emboldened their efforts by using inflammatory language about abortion and appointing not one but three justices to the Supreme Court whose anti-c...Arguments on putting Trump’s gag order back in place are before an appeals court

By ERIC TUCKER, ALANNA DURKIN RICHER and LINDSAY WHITEHURST (Associated Press)WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal appeals court is hearing arguments Monday on whether to reinstate a gag order against Donald Trump in the federal case charging him with plotting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.Prosecutors with special counsel Jack Smith’s team will urge a three-judge panel of the Washington-based appeals court to put back in place an order barring the Republican former president from making inflammatory statements about lawyers in the case and potential witnesses. The prosecutors say those restrictions are necessary to prevent Trump from undermining confidence in the court system and intimidating people who may be called to testify against him. Defense lawyers have called the gag order an unconstitutional muzzling of Trump’s free speech rights and say prosecutors have presented no evidence to support the idea that his words have caused harm or made a...Latest news
