New source of water found in moon samples from China mission CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Scientists have discovered a new and renewable source of water on the moon for future explorers in lunar samples from a Chinese mission. Water was embedded in tiny glass beads in the lunar dirt where meteorite impacts occur. These shiny, multicolored glass beads were in samples returned from the moon by China in 2020. The beads range in size from the width of one hair to several hairs; the water content was just a miniscule fraction of that, said Hejiu Hui of Nanjing University, who took part in the study. Since there are billions if not trillions of these impact beads, that could amount to substantial amounts of water, but mining it would be tough, according to the team.“Yes, it will require lots and lots of glass beads,” Hui said in an email. “On the other hand, there are lots and lots of beads on the moon.” These beads could continually yield water thanks to the constant bombardment by hydrogen in the solar wind. The findings, published Monday in...

DeSantis signs bill expanding school voucher program TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed legislation to allow all K-12 students in the state to get taxpayer-funded vouchers for private schools, continuing a focus on education as he prepares to launch an expected Republican presidential campaign. The law expands Florida’s voucher system by eliminating income eligibility limits on the program. Democrats and critics have said the legislation has an unclear price tag, amounts to a subsidy for the wealthy and could harm public schools. The so-called school choice movement first gained traction in the U.S. in the 1990s but has seen a renewed push after coronavirus pandemic school closures and ongoing cultural debates over education around gender and race.DeSantis has made eliminating what he describes as liberal ideology in education a focal point of his conservative agenda, harnessing unease among some Republicans regarding what they view as inappropriate subjects being taught in...

Great Monday….Not So Much Tuesday

Great Monday….Not So Much Tuesday Monday gets a bad rap but hard to find anything to complain about today! Sunny skies, no wind and mild temps. Check out the high temps across the region…Yet another mild day here in March 2023. I actually thought going into the month that the jet stream would position itself in such a way that would produce quite a few chilly days but…nope! The warm days clearly out-numbering the chilly days (much like we saw this past winter)…Moving ahead, I think a blue square will fall on tomorrow’s date in that calendar. Here is how Tuesday is shaping up…Meh. Off and on showers through the day (a few wet snowflakes even mixed in at times during the early morning hours) but never really persistent or long-lasting. All this moisture in the air will produce a raw feel to the air from start to finish. Not the greatest of days. Sunshine will return for both Wednesday and Thursday but sandwiched in-between the two days is a strong cold front which will blast through here ...
