DENVER (KDVR) — A 37-year-old man is facing charges of driving under the influence in a crash that killed a mother and her teenage son near Broomfield High School on Tuesday. Melissa Powell, 47, and her son, 16-year-old Riordan Powell, died in the crash on Main Street. Riordan was a student at nearby Broomfield High School and Boulder TEC.Witnesses said driver was speeding at 100 mphAccording to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX31, Jose Menjivar was driving a Toyota Tundra southbound on Main Street toward Miramonte Boulevard when witnesses noticed he was speeding at a high rate. 3-year-old injured in Longmont drive-by shooting, suspects wanted One witness told police that Menjivar was speeding at an estimated rate of 100 mph in a 40 mph zone. BROOMFIELD Colo. (KDVR) — FOX31 is taking a deeper dive into a deadly crash in Broomfield that left a mother and her son dead.It happened Tuesday afternoon around 1:20 pm on Main Street and Miramonte Boulevard, near Broomfield High School.Investigators now say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. DENVER (KDVR) — Denver drivers will need to plan alternate routes this weekend, as parts of Broadway will be fully closed.From Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. to Saturday, Dec. 16 at noon, crews will be working on an improvement project in the area of Broadway and Interstate 25.Due to this project, Denver's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will fully close both north and southbound lanes of Broadway between Exposition and Mississippi Avenue. The road cuts between the Baker and Washington Park West neighborhoods. Detectives shut down part of a Miami neighborhood for hours after, they said, shots were fired at a police cruiser following an armed robbery at a nearby restaurant.City of Miami Police units responded to Swan Restaurant, located near Northeast 39th Street and First Avenue, Friday evening.The robbery is believed to have taken place at a valet stand outside of the restaurant, at around 5:30 p.m.A maître d’ at the restaurant told 7News that he witnessed the robbery.Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Officers set up a large perimeter just north of the Design District, between 36th and 46th streets.Officers were seen checking cars and asking drivers and passers-by for IDs. One person was taken to the hospital after, police said, shots rang out at an apartment complex in Sweetwater.Sweetwater Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the shooting at the 7 West Apartment Homes along the 11200 block of Northwest Seventh Street, late Friday afternoon.Neighbors heard police arriving at the scene at around 5:45 p.m.7News cameras captured an active scene, as part of the complex was cordoned off with crime scene tape and detectives were seen talking to people at the complex.Investigators confirmed the victim was taken to an area hospital where they are listed in stable condition, but have not disclosed the victim’s age or gender.Officers blocked off Northwest Seventh Street near the complex, but they reopened the roadway at around 7 p.m.Police have not provided information about a possible shooter or whether there is one in custody, as they continue to investigate.Please check back on WSVN.com and 7News for more details on this d...To save the climate, change the game for petrostates

Strike action at the province’s public elementary schools has been taken off the table.Members of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) voted 90 per cent in favour of accepting the central agreement with the Ford government.The term of the four-year central agreement is from Sept. 1, 2022, to Aug. 31, 2026. Ratification from the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) is required for the agreement to take effect, and their vote is scheduled for next week.
