BottleRock Napa Valley kicked off year 10 in a big way on Friday (May 26), throwing a party for 40,000 music lovers and delivering a soundtrack that included current hitmakers like Post Malone, classic acts such as the Smashing Pumpkins and too many up-and-coming artists to even try and mention in this already unwieldly opening sentence.Attendees rejoiced in the relatively mild weather as they took in some 10 hours of music on a half dozen stages, while eating and drinking to their hearts’ content from dozens upon dozens of vendors onsite at the Napa Valley Expo in downtown Napa. The festival, which got its start in 2013 and has taken place every year except for 2020 (due to the COVID-19), continues through Sunday with such big-name talents as Wu-Tang Clan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sheryl Crow, Los Lobos, Lil Nas X and the National. The crowd’s focus on Day One was squarely on Post Malone, the multiplatinum-selling pop artist known for “Rockstar,” “Circles&...3 meerkat pups born at Smithsonian National Zoo, a first in 16 years

Three meerkats were born at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in D.C. earlier this month, an event the zoo hasn’t seen for 16 years. When keepers at the zoo’s Small Mammal House came into work on May 10, a news release said they found that Sadie, a 5-year-old meerkat, had given birth to the pups overnight. It was Sadie’s first time giving birth, while the pups’ 6-year-old father Frankie had previously reproduced at the Los Angeles Zoo in California, according to the zoo.In their natural habitat, meerkat pups stay underground for about three weeks. Though the animals’ enclosure at the zoo has a tubing system to allow meerkats to burrow — Sadie took a different approach.“The day Sadie gave birth, she surprised keepers by bringing her pups into the main exhibit space,” a news release from the zoo said.Sadie, her sister Stella, and Frankie all came to the zoo in November 2022. ...Verstappen takes pole for Monaco Grand Prix ahead of Alonso as Perez crashes

MONACO (AP) — Defending Formula One champion Max Verstappen produced a superb final lap to take pole position at the Monaco Grand Prix on Saturday and deny Aston Martin veteran Fernando Alonso his first pole in 11 years.Verstappen called his first pole at Monaco “very lovely” but there was nothing to cheer for his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez as last year’s race winner crashed early in qualifying.Alpine’s Esteban Ocon surprisingly led near the end of the session before the 41-year-old Alonso moved back to the top as he chased a first pole since the German GP in 2012, when he was with Ferrari. But Verstappen had other ideas as he brushed the walls of the sinewy street circuit to beat Alonso’s time by just 0.084 seconds and clinch his fourth pole of the season and 23rd of his career.“I knew this weekend it was going to be tight,” the 25-year-old Verstappen said. “I definitely pushed a bit harder.”Alonso walked over to Verstappen and shook his hand after a tigh...Bayern Munich wins record-extending 11th consecutive Bundesliga title
