ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – A man from Odessa, Texas, was arrested earlier this week after a child passed a note to her bus driver asking for help on Tuesday. That morning, officers with the Odessa Police Department were notified of the girl's actions and responded to an address listed on the note, intending to investigate an unknown issue. When they arrived, officers found a man and a woman, who police said is the girl's mother, sitting on the porch. As investigators approached, the couple walked inside their home and took several minutes to open the door. AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Thursday, the City of Austin urged residents to be prepared for possible severe flooding following heavy rainfall.According to the National Weather Service, heavy rainfall was in the forecast, with the potential of flash flooding likely from Friday night through Sunday. Large hail and damaging winds are also primary concerns.“Flash flooding can occur very quickly and without warning,” the city said. “It is important to be prepared in advance of a possible emergency.”The city provided tips to prepare.“Clean out drains and gutters. Keep drainage easements clear of debris, and do not dump brush into creeks or open channels. The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close northbound Interstate 35W between I-35E in Burnsville and Interstate 494 in Bloomington on three weekends starting at 10 p.m. May 19, a week from Friday, for road resurfacing and other improvements. There will be two other weekend closures later in the spring and summer.All northbound ramps between I-35E and 82nd Street, and the southbound I-35W E-ZPass lane between 82nd Street and 94th Street, will be closed. Drivers will be detoured to I-35E to Minnesota 77 to I-494. Fort Snelling State Park will reopen Monday after being closed due to flooding from the Mississippi River.However, some areas remain closed due to continued high water conditions, ongoing cleanups, and trail maintenance, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.Furthermore, some construction projects scheduled for later this spring and summer also require closing some areas. Visitors are encouraged to check visitor alerts on the park webpage of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ website at mndnr.gov/fortsnelling to learn what to expect.Those visiting will need a state park vehicle permit to enter the park. (NEWS10) -- An arrest warrant has been issued for Derek Carella after a jury convicted him on charges of Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Domingo faces charges of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and two counts of Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance. ST. LOUIS - Police departments from a growing number of American cities and metros are dealing with staffing shortages. The issue is no different for officers who serve the City of St. Louis.According to new numbers compiled by FOX 2's Mitch McCoy, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is currently around 20% understaffed. At full strength, the department would employ 1,224 commissioned officers. SLMPD is currently down 254 officers, staffing less than 1,000 officers as of Thursday. Crime ring based in St. Charles targeted small towns In 2021, SLMPD reported its force was short nearly 150 officers.
