The Bruins looked determined to make amends in Minnesota on Saturday for their lackluster performance in Winnipeg on Friday. That lasted all of 20 minutes. The Wild wrestled control of the game from the B’s in the second period and, though the B’s made it close in the end, Minnesota came away with a well-deserved 3-2 victory at Xcel Energy Center. It was the fourth straight loss for the B’s.Whether or not the three-day Christmas break can fix what’s ailing the Bruins, they are currently broken. They have one regulation win in their past eight games. Their penalty-killing, once a key part of their identity, has sprung leaks. The B’s are missing regular defensemen Derek Forbort and Matt Grzelcyk, but their top D-men are struggling. Charlie McAvoy is minus-13 in the 15 games since returning from his four-game suspension. Hampus Lindholm, a 53-point man last season, has just 1-6-7 totals this season. And Jake DeBrusk, expected to provide some much needed secon...Lakeshore West GO train briefly delayed after 2 people injured near Burlington

Researchers at Western University say they’ve confirmed that a fire-generated tornado occurred in British Columbia this summer after a video of the “rarely observed” event went viral back in August. In a blog post, researchers from the university’s Northern Tornadoes Project say they began an extensive investigation after the video was posted showing an “intense vortex” over Gun Lake in southwest B.C. during a “raging nighttime wildfire.”They say the investigation was very careful because it’s the first case of a fire-generated tornado recorded by the research team at the Northern Tornadoes Project. The post says the investigation involved the help of witnesses, and they were able to pinpoint the time and location of the fire tornado on Gun Lake’s north shore around 4:45 a.m. on Aug. 18. Researchers say terminology around the phenomenon is “still developing,” but clarified that the Gun Lake occurrence ...Wild still rolling, beat Boston for 10th win in 13 games

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Nuggets defenders and Hornets fans held their breath every time a shot went up for a few unusually suspenseful minutes at the end of the third quarter. The Nuggets had briefly snapped out of holiday back-to-back mode, a malaise that overtook them in the first half and fourth quarter Saturday night. For the time being, that mindset was suitably replaced by relentless defense, aided by unwitting Charlotte shot-missing, in a staggering third quarter that cemented Denver’s fifth consecutive road win, 102-95, over the short-handed Hornets at Spectrum Center. The Nuggets (21-10) trailed 60-54 at halftime 24 hours after playing in Brooklyn. They proceeded to score the first 17 points of the second half, part of an extended 25-1 run in a quarter that ended 30-9. The Hornets missed their first 20 shot attempts of the quarter, needing 11 minutes, two seconds to finally score from the field and six minutes, 14 seconds to score at all.
