JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. - The Jefferson County Council is taking up a controversial resolution at Thursday night's meeting. The resolution is against immigrants going to Jefferson County. A similar resolution came up before the St. Charles County Council last month, but it failed on a three-to-three tie vote. How much daylight will St. Louis have on the shortest day of 2023? St. Charles wanted to urge St. Louis City to not accept Latin immigrants from Chicago coming to the area through the Humanitarian Parole Program. Also, Thursday night, the Jefferson County Council is set to give final approval to next year's budget.Colorado’s 9 most beautiful frozen winter waterfalls

Can you call it a waterfall if the water isn’t falling? We vote yes, and believe winter to be the coolest — see what we did there? — time to check out these frozen-over cascades. (Waterstill just doesn’t have the same ring to it.) In fact, waterfalls might be at their peak majesty when iced over and draped in newly fallen snow, creating a scene straight out of Arendelle or Narnia or some other idyllic, frosted land that isn’t in a children’s movie.Related ArticlesOutdoors | Over 600,000 passengers expected to go through DIA around Christmas Outdoors | Celebrated chef leaves Michelin-starred Denver restaurant Outdoors | Experts stress caution during holiday season as mystery dog illness continues to circulate in Colorado Outdoors | Opinion: Why a direct flight to Africa from Denver would be “two-way transformational” Outdoors | Nearly 100 cargo workers at DIA go on strike Monday, protesting u...Editorial: Trump’s appointees — Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett — now hold his and America’s fate in their hands

With great anxiety about the future of America, we will watch three justices decide whether the man who gave them lifetime appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court is still eligible to be elected president despite organizing, fomenting and then executing a violent uprising against Congress.Justices Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh hold the future of our storied democracy in their hands as they consider a robust 213-page ruling from the Colorado Supreme Court that found former President Donald Trump engaged in insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021. Because of their appointment by Trump, these three justices are uniquely positioned to enforce the Constitution and avoid a crisis that could unravel the foundations of America’s republic. The case Anderson vs. Griswold is clear; Trump’s actions have disqualified him from holding the office of president.Five members of Colorado’s Supreme Court spelled out exactly how and why Trump cannot appear on Colorado’s primary ballot in 2024 i...Storm drops 3 inches of rain in an hour, brings widespread flooding to Ventura County

(The Hill) - Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) said Wednesday that the House Education Committee will expand its investigation into Harvard President Claudine Gay to include allegations that she committed plagiarism in academic work. The Education Committee previously held a hearing on campus antisemitism featuring Gay and the leaders of the University of Pennsylvania and MIT. At that hearing, the group controversially said that it would depend on context if calls for the genocide of Jewish people to be considered harassment. In a letter Wednesday acquired by Bloomberg, Foxx said the committee will expand its look into Gay, focusing on whether Harvard holds its faculty to the same academic standards as students.Dr. Claudine Gay, President of Harvard University, testifies before the House Education and Workforce Committee on December 05, 2023 in Washington, DC. In recent years, historic preservation has come under intense fire from state Sen. Scott Wiener and his YIMBY allies for allegedly interfering with housing production. However, the regional housing crisis can be solved without destroying historic neighborhoods.I am a San Francisco-based architectural historian and historic preservation consultant who has been active in the Bay Area for 26 years. I am a committed urbanist and a lover of open space. As a Bay Area native, I remember as a child watching the last stone fruit orchards of South San Jose being bulldozed to construct endless tracts of one-story ranch houses sequestered behind beige sound walls.Today I see the same thing happening in the outer reaches of the Bay Area and the Central Valley. I despise low-density, auto-dependent sprawl. I believe that our cities should become more “urban,” not only to preserve our farmland but also to encourage a pedestrian-oriented way of life that is common in much of the world, including a ...Five-bedroom home in San Ramon sells for $2.3 million

Ukraine surprised everyone — above all, probably, Vladimir Putin — with its determined resistance to Russia’s attack in February 2022. But now the war has ground down to a lethal stalemate. Ukraine cannot win this war of attrition on its own. Without outside help, a stalemate amounts to an eventual defeat for Ukraine.Reflecting its admiration of the Ukrainians’ courage, as well as the stakes in this conflict, the West has responded with considerable aid.According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the United States has contributed $77 billion in various combinations of military assistance, financial support and humanitarian aid. The European Union has contributed $85 billion, and its member states have made additional contributions: Germany ($20 billion), United Kingdom ($13 billion), Norway ($7 billion). But with a population base a third the size of Russia’s, Ukraine is running short of troops, as indicated by reports last week of recruitment problems.
