WASHINGTON (AP) — The House voted Monday to push off a Republican effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, a process usually reserved for grave misconduct in office that is instead being wielded in an extraordinary effort to remove the Cabinet secretary for his handling of the southern border.Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a hard-right Republican from Georgia, forced a vote on impeaching Mayorkas to the floor through a rule that allows any single member to force a snap vote on resolutions, including constitutional matters such as impeachment. A handful of Republicans joined with Democrats to vote 209-201 to send her resolution to committees for possible consideration, like any other bill. They are under no obligation to do anything. But the vote and its GOP support showed a growing appetite to reach to Congress’ most grave weapons and redefine what the Constitution means by impeachable “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Impeaching a Cabinet official for their poli...Unanimous Rookies of the Year in Both Leagues

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The season is far enough along to just accept this is the way it’s going to be for the Seattle Seahawks. They are the sort of team that will elicit boos walking off the field at halftime and leave those same fans cheering as they leave the field two quarters later.Sometimes the offense is going to be unsightly and looking lost. Sometimes the defense is going to be unable to make stops. But for all their faults, the Seahawks are 6-3 and tied for the NFC West lead. And they’re about to embark on a five-week stretch that’ll test just how well they can mask their shortcomings.“We just got to be better. We won at the end of the day, but we got to be better still,” defensive end Dre’Mont Jones said after Sunday’s 29-26 win over Washington. “It’s a lot to clean up and improve on from top to bottom, inside and out, we got to fix that.”Seattle rebounded from the second-worst loss of Pete Carroll’s tenure, but it wasn’t a straightforward victory over the Commanders. HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — The Raiders had just 33 yards rushing at halftime of Sunday night’s game against the Jets, averaging 2.8 yards per carry. Many coaches would’ve been tempted to try to win the game through the air in the second half, but not Las Vegas’ Antonio Pierce. He doubled down on the running game in the second half, and it’s a major reason the Raiders rallied to beat New York 16-12.Led by Josh Jacobs, the Raiders rushed for 115 yards in the second half, averaging 5.8 yards a pop. Jacobs went from gaining 30 yards on 10 carries in the opening 30 minutes to picking up 86 yards on 17 attempts after halftime. This isn’t a one-off, either. In the Raiders’ two games since Pierce became the interim coach, he has emphasized the ground game. Jacobs rushed for 98 yards the week before against the New York Giants, giving him, 214 yards in two games with Pierce in control. He averaged 4 yards on 53 combined carries.Jacobs gained 408 yards in his firs...Pobreza en las familias encabezadas por mujeres se duplicó en EE.UU., revela estudio

When he gets going, it’s almost unstoppable to stop Jayson Tatum. The Knicks learned that again on Monday night at TD Garden.Tatum scored 35 points, including 23 in the second half and 17 in the fourth quarter, as the Celtics superstar continued his MVP-caliber start to the season. He was the difference as the Celtics, in a dog fight with the Knicks for most of the night, pulled away for a 114-98 victory.Jaylen Brown added 22 points and Kristaps Porzingis had 21 for the Celtics, who won their third game in a row. The C’s, like in the season opener at Madison Square Garden, struggled to find separation against Jalen Brunson and the tough Knicks, but they relied on one of their better defensive efforts of the season to turn the game around. The Celtics and Knicks traded haymakers for most of the first three quarters, neither budging before the C’s finally got some breathing room. The game was tied at 72 with 3:05 to go before the Celtics went on a 12-4 run to close the quarter, which in...Latest news
