Lake Elmo to vote on plan for interim administrator, city council member vacancy

The Lake Elmo City Council on Tuesday is expected to hire a former interim city administrator to once again take on the city’s top job following the termination last month of city administrator Kristina Handt.The council voted 3-1 on Nov. 21 not to renew Handt’s contract, which expired on Nov. 30. Handt, who had expressed concerns about the site of a new Lake Elmo Elementary School because of issues regarding access to city water, had been city administrator since March 2016. Council member Lisa McGinn, the lone dissenter, immediately resigned in protest.On Tuesday, the council is expected to approve a motion to enter into an employment agreement with Clark Schroeder, who served as the city’s interim administrator for a year prior to Handt’s hiring.Schroeder has served as county administrator in St. Croix County, Wis., chief administrative officer for The Royal Club in Lake Elmo; county administrator in Curry County, Ore., and county administrator in Ashland County, Wis. Two Minnesota companies are recalling cut cantaloupe due to potential salmonella contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced.The cantaloupe products were sold at locations including regional convenience stores, delis and at Caribou locations at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.However, the recalled cantaloupe products are now past their “use-by” dates — so consumers are not likely to still find them for sale.Health officials say that consumers who purchased the recalled fruits and still have them should throw them away and wash surfaces that touched them with hot, soapy water or in a dishwasher.The Minnesota companies issuing the recalls are Bix Produce of Little Canada and Cut Fruit Express of Inver Grove Heights.Bix Produce of Little Canada, Minn., is issuing a voluntary cantaloupe recall. KINDERHOOK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Police responded to a fatal crash in Kinderhook on Monday morning that claimed the life of a 48-year-old from Stockport. Police say the crash happened at the intersection of State Route 9H and County Route 25. Investigations determined that Perez-Martinez was turning left onto State Route 9H from County Route 25. Her vehicle pulled into the path of a 2015 Ford Utility heading southbound on State Route 9H.The driver of the Ford was evaluated at the scene and reported that he was not injured. Perez-Martinez had an 8-year-old passenger who was transported to the Albany Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.Police do not believe drugs or alcohol are contributing factors. ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. -- The Family Arena is set for a $13 million makeover, its first major renovation since opening in 1999. Completion is expected by the fall of 2024.The renovations aim to enhance visitor's experiences and bring the venue in line with modern expectations. Roberts Broadcasting says that several notable radio personalities will also be featured on FOXY 106.9 FM. A busload of migrants was dropped off outside the Colorado Capitol building in Denver on Monday morning in what a city official believes is the latest in a wave of buses chartered by the Texas state government.It’s unclear how many people were on the bus. Sen. Julie Gonzales, a Denver Democrat who was at the Capitol as the bus was unloading about 8:30 a.m., estimated the number of people onboard at 40 to 50. She directed them into the building to get warm while officials coordinated the next steps.Gonzales said some of the migrants told her they’d come from Eagle Pass, a Texas town near the border with Mexico.
