(KRON) -- BART is addressing sexual harassment and gender-based violence when riding transit through a new initiative.Starting Sept. 11, BART will run shorter trains to eliminate empty cars where some women have been targeted for harassment and assault. Service will be increased during the nights and weekends so riders to not have to wait for long periods of time at platforms. Beyoncé gives ‘Beyhive’ a show to remember at Levi’s Stadium Posters outlining safety tips are currently up on all BART train cars and stations. Pamphlets informing people on how to report sexual harassment are available at BART's station booths. (Poster: BART)“This project understands the importance of making people feel comfortable on public transit, a place that is meant for everyone,” said Suarez, a senior at Oakland School of the Arts. “Being a part of this has made me hopeful; it shows me we’re not that messed up as a society. Even this small group is making a big impact."In ‘Equalizer 3,’ Denzel Washington’s assassin goes to Italy

Filmmaker Antoine Fuqua has been dreaming about taking the Equalizer abroad for years. The action franchise (very loosely based on a 1980s television series) starring Denzel Washington as the reluctant assassin Robert McCall had rooted itself in humble domestic beginnings, in Boston. But after two films and $382.7 million in box-office receipts in the past decade, the time seemed ripe to travel. “Denzel is an international movie star,” Fuqua told The Associated Press. “We thought it would be nice to see a man of color in a story that’s more international. Why not take this character around the world? Luckily, Sony loved the idea.”And there was only one place that was ever seriously on the list: Italy. Washington, Fuqua said, goes every summer and has since his kids were babies. He loves the culture, the people, the food. He even speaks some Italian.“He just feels right there,” Fuqua said. And for Fuqua, it was the stuff of filmmaking dreams to get to shoot in Cinecittà Studios in Rom...Arrest made in attempted break-in at home of UFC president Dana White

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban government said it signed seven mining contracts Thursday amounting to $6.5 billion in investment, in the biggest such round of deals since seizing power two years ago.The seven contracts are with locally based companies, many of whom have foreign partners in countries including China, Iran, and Turkey. They include the extraction and processing of iron ore, lead, zinc and gold in four provinces: Herat, Ghor, Logar and Takhar.A statement on the contracts from Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund gave few details, but said they would create thousands of jobs and significantly improve the economic situation of the country.Any figures given for the deals could be misleading unless they lead to fully realized mining operations on the ground, which could take years, said Javed Noorani, an expert in Afghanistan’s mining sector.“The Taliban know Afghanistan has minerals and this is cash, but it’s not ea...Sports on TV for Friday, September 1

DENVER (KDVR) -- On Thursday at 10 a.m., the Denver Public Schools Board is holding a news conference to release the findings about the firing of former McAuliffe International School Principal Kurt Dennis. Fired McAuliffe principal looks forward to day in court, attorney says Dennis was originally fired for allegedly sharing confidential student information in a news interview after two deans were shot at East High School. After leaving the school, his firing received more attention when a whistleblower shared information about a seclusion room at the school, that was referred to as an "incarceration room." On Thursday, school board members are prepared to share more information on their investigation into allegations surrounding Dennis’s conduct as a principal. Community rallies to save fired principal’s job Dennis plans on suing the school district. The conference will take place at the Denver School Board headquarters but it's closed to the public. ATLANTA (AP) — Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty on Thursday and said he'll skip a hearing next week in the case accusing him and others of illegally trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia.Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee had set arraignment hearings for Trump and the 18 others charged in the case for Sept. 6. A court filing waiving arraignment means Trump won’t have to show up for that. The decision to skip an in-person appearance averts the dramatic arraignments that have accompanied the three other criminal cases Trump faces, in which the Republican former president has been forced amid tight security into a courtroom and entered “not guilty” pleas before crowds of spectators. Georgia courts have fairly permissive rules on news cameras in the courtroom, and this step means Trump won't have to enter a plea on television.Trump and 18 others were charged earlier this month in a 41-count indictment that outlines an alleged scheme t...Latest news
