AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Our stretch of wet weather has arrived with scattered rain making for a slippery Thursday morning commute around the Austin-metro.A strong Pacific storm still hanging off the west coast will send a disturbance out ahead of it, increasing rain chances through the day today and tomorrow. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- It's the busiest time of year for the U.S. Postal Service -- and thieves are taking advantage. "We are currently in the middle of the holiday shopping season, which means additional packages will be delivered" in the coming days, said U.S. Postal Inspector and Public Information Officer Silvia Torres. "Those eagerly awaited packages are, unfortunately, also attractive to thieves."In one southwest Austin community, surveillance video captured criminals stealing mail with ease. By using stolen USPS master keys -- also called "arrow" or "universal" keys -- crooks are able to unlock multiple mailboxes at once."Yeah, not great. Not great at all," said Todd, a homeowner, whose mail was stolen. He asked KXAN not to use his last name or say where the area was out of fear for his safety. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A smash-and-grab at a south county jewelry store leads to an arrest. The police say this man is responsible for more than a dozen other burglaries.The suspect is Joshua John Simmons-Pollard. Police said that he went on a crime spree in St. Louis City and County between November 30 and December 15. On December 6, he was accused of busting the windows of 'Glitter on Gravois' in Sappington Plaza, breaking into jewelry cases, and stealing several pieces.
