(KRON) – The Martinez Refinery Company announced Friday that flaring is occurring at the refinery. According to the company, the flaring “may be visible and audible offsite due to an operational incident.” A strong odor has also been reported on top of the flaring. (KRON) -- A 35-year-old man is accused of committing mayhem when he allegedly went on a crime spree along El Camino Real in Redwood City on Thursday afternoon, according to deputies. Nicholas Ibarra, of East Palo Alto, robbed a victim and tried to kidnap a local coffee shop's employee, San Mateo County Sheriff's Sgt. Alfredo Gudino wrote.After the coffee shop incident, deputies saw Ibarra on El Camino Real "deliberately cause traffic hazards by targeting moving vehicles. Upon approaching the suspect, he violently attacked the deputy, causing him facial injuries," Gudino wrote. Ibarra suffered facial injuries as well. The Sheriff's Office did not say how Ibarra was injured.The deputy and Ibarra were transported to a hospital for treatment.Ibarra was later booked into jail in Redwood City on charges including mayhem, attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault on a deputy, resisting arrest, committing a felony while on bail. MADRID (AP) — Fourteen workers at one of Spain’s main airports for tourists were arrested on suspicion of stealing items from checked-in luggage, police said Friday.Police seized allegedly stolen items worth almost 2 million euros ($2.2 million), including around 13,000 euros ($14,000) in cash, from the group of employees at the largest airport in Tenerife, in Spain’s Canary Islands, a statement said. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Congressional Budget Office said Friday it expects inflation to nearly hit the Federal Reserve’s 2% target rate in 2024, as overall growth is expected to slow and unemployment is expected to rise into 2025, according to updated economic projections for the next two years. The office’s Current View of the Economy from 2023 to 2025 report estimates that the unemployment rate will hit 4.4% in the fourth quarter of 2024 and remain close to that level through 2025. Currently, the unemployment rate is 3.7%, according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Meanwhile, gross domestic product, otherwise known as the overall health of the economy, is estimated to fall from 2.5% in 2023 to 1.5% in 2024 — then rebound to 2.2% in 2025, according to the CBO projections.
