Powerball jackpot climbs to $725 million after no winner chosen

(NEXSTAR) - The Powerball jackpot continues to climb after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn: 2, 24, 34, 53, 58 and red Powerball 13.The jackpot now stands at an estimated $725 million for the next drawing on Wednesday, July 12. The cash option for the jackpot is an estimated $366.2 million as of Tuesday morning.Two tickets in the Monday drawing, sold in California and Iowa, matched all five white balls. The ticket in California won a $1 million prize, while the ticket in Iowa jumped to $2 million when the player added the Power Play feature for an additional dollar. There were also 28 tickets that won $50,000 prizes, and 12 tickets that won $100,000 prizes.The current jackpot has been growing since mid-April when someone in Ohio won the $252.6 million prize. Gas tanker crashes into St. Louis Metro transit center

ST. LOUIS -- A gasoline tanker truck crashed into a Metro transit center near Riverview and Hall Streets early Tuesday morning and knocked over a power pole. The pole is leaning on other power lines. Police have the area blocked off here because there is a downed power line. Ameren and Metro crews are also on the scene.The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. It's still unclear exactly what caused the crash, but we do that there was a second vehicle somehow involved. The airbags on that second vehicle did deploy. Parson signs laws for new moms’ health care, ban on texting while driving Police at the scene have not been able to give us a lot of details. Metro officials tell FOX 2 that the transit center here is operating this morning for passengers and buses. ST. LOUIS -- Mostly sunny skies Tuesday, with highs in the mid 90s. More clouds around tonight, temps only fall into the low to mid 70s.  Wednesday looks wet, with heavy rain and storms expected. But two scenarios are possible. One, thunderstorms drop south in the morning and move through with heavy rain, wind, and lightning. That would make for some cooler temperatures. Or morning storms could fall apart as they drop south early in the day. That would mean a hotter and very humid day and push the local storm chance to the afternoon and evening. We will have to watch this closely. Afternoon storms could bring some strong wind gusts and hail.  St. Louis radar: See a map of current weather here The threat for rain continues Thursday and Friday thanks to a front stall across the Bi-State. Rounds of storms will be possible. South of the front, it will be hot and humid. To the north, temps won’t be as high. 

St. Louis Public Schools superintendent to be sworn in

ST. LOUIS -- The new St. Louis schools superintendent will be officially sworn into office today. Dr. Keisha Scarlett took over the job in July after the retirement of Dr. Kelvin Adams. She was assistant superintendent in the Seattle Public School District. The installation ceremony is at 6:15 p.m. before the regular school board meeting.

17th annual Sergeant Jon Brough Blood Drive takes place today

FREEBURG, Ill. -- The 17th annual Sergeant Jon Brough Blood Drive takes place Tuesday. Brough is a former Belleville police sergeant who was shot in the face and left blind during an arrest in 2006. He's had more than 30 surgical procedures since then requiring many units of blood.Now, it's Brough's mission to help replenish the red cross blood supply in our region. You can donate today at the Catholic War Veterans Hall. That's on South Illinois Street in Freeburg, Illinois. Appointments are scheduled from noon to 6 p.m.

Several homes catch fire in Cahokia Heights, Illinois

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Several unoccupied homes caught on fire overnight on Range Lane in Cahokia Heights, Illinois. One home is completely destroyed and another sustained heavy damage.Firefighters appear to have the situation under control. Ameren crews are at the scene to check on the power lines.It is not clear what started the fires.

Dear Amy: My husband and I have two children under the age of three.Most of the time when my husband watches the kids, he is on his phone.Even when our 11-month-old is practicing walking, he holds her by the arm as he walks with his eyes glued to his other hand, which is holding the phone.If I say something, he gets all defensive.With our first child, I called him a bad dad because he was always on his phone or just holding him watching TV (basically not interacting with his child).He was very hurt by this and said I was out of line and disrespectful for saying it.
